Trust Issues

I know it's been a minute (a year and twenty days to be exact 😬) since my last blog post...but I'm back!
I'll save all the small talk and just jump right to it. I was on a therapy session last week and when I tell you my therapist wrecked me...whew!

[First off let me just preface all of this by saying that I am a strong believer in therapy. Not just for people who may be dealing with something, but for everyone. Therapy and the right therapist will literally change your life. I stand by that. If you tried it and you don't feel the same, you had the wrong therapist. Because the right therapist will literally change your life. Ok, rant over.]

But while I was talking to my therapist, she helped me to realize that there is one area in my life that could stand to use some improvement. What does that have to do with you, you may ask? Allow me to explain.  If you are someone who sometimes finds it difficult to completely trust God, keep reading... this post is for you.

A lot of us (myself included especially) say we trust God, but when it all boils down, find ourselves ultimately lacking in trust. We say "use me, Lord", "I'm Yours", "whatever you want me to do, I'll obey". Yet when the very thing He's calling us to doesn't fit inside of our comfortable little box, we backtrack on everything we just professed. Can I share with you some of the nuggets my therapist dropped on me that I was not ready for? She said:

"I'm wondering if what God has for you, you're not getting because you don't trust?"

"Anytime God sends you somewhere, He equips you. He's not going to send you somewhere deliberately for you to fall on your face. Now if you do it on your own, maybe."

"If it's in His will, it's going to be good. It's probably going to be better than you even imagined."

"There's such a peace in surrendering."

"Surrender, even if it feels uncomfortable."

"We don't always obey, but He's still the same gracious God to us. God says "I love you in spite of you...in spite of your disobedience to me."

"We have to be okay with being uncomfortable with the unknowns."

"Don't create so many perimeters and disqualifiers."

"Challenge your thoughts, because if you don't they will become the loudest voice in your head."

"You have to remind yourself...He hasn't failed me yet. And He's not going to start now."

"Your fear of the unknown has shackles on you."

"Trust God more."

Really all of these quotes could be summed up into the last one: simply put, "trust God more". But how about we all just take a moment to let alllll of that sink in. Cause it's so good and so true. Even in already knowing the truth in those statements, being reminded of it at just the right time makes all the difference in the world. Because let's be honest, you can know better and still not choose to do better. (that's a word for another day). I'll be the first to admit that it's so much easier said than done, but I understand completely how vital trusting God is.

Trust says even if it doesn't end up how I want it to I'll still obey. Trust says I don't need all the answers before I make the first step. Trust says I don't know what I'm walking into, but I know God's got me. Trust says either I'll glow from this or grow from it. Trust says if not, He's still good. Trust says I don't have to stress about the future because God already has it under control. That is the trust I'm striving for (which is so hard coming from someone who always wants to know the who, what, when, where, how and why's of something) but I'm working on it. And maybe you are too. If so, know that you're not alone.

I'm extending the challenge given to me by my therapist to you - I challenge you to firstly consider how you can begin to trust God more. Then, I challenge you to surrender one thing in your life to God. Whatever it is, my prayer is that God takes all of our surrendered things and does exceedingly more with it in His hands than we could ever do with it in ours. May our testimonies be that in surrendering, we lacked nothing and gained way more than we could have ever imagined. May our trust increase and our fear of the unknown(s) decrease. If we truly believe that God is a good God and looks out for His children, that He's perfect in all of His ways, that His plans for us are good, that He's capable of taking care of us...then how much more should our lives reflect that?

Here's to trusting God more. Here's to letting go of all the things we hold close so that God can do what He desires with it. Here's to surrendering our imperfect lives to His perfect will. Here's to stepping out on faith even when it's hard to see the first step. Trust issues may have had a hold on me before, but this is where I begin to take my freedom back. Will you join me?

    1. Thank you for sharing! I am also someone who is such a planner and also needs to know who, what, when, where, why. All of this is what led me to fully surrender and accept Jesus into my heart. This was about
